2HMatching nuts

ASTM A194 Grade 2H

The nut that goes on B7. Quenched-and-tempered carbon steel at 24–38 HRC, always heavy hex, always thicker than a standard nut so the threads yield before the stud breaks.

Base material
Medium carbon steel
Heat treatment condition
Quenched and tempered
Hardness, max
24 HRC minimum, 38 HRC maximum (248–352 HBW)

Service temperature

-48 °C+427 °C−273+900 °C

Standard mate for A193 B7 and B16. Do not use on B7M or L7M — its hardness is far above the 22 HRC that sour service allows.

A194 controls carbon and manganese as minimums only — the grade is defined by the heat treatment and the resulting hardness, not by a narrow chemistry band.

Mechanical properties

ASTM A194 does not set a separate tensile requirement for nuts. The grade is controlled by hardness and by a proof load test, which is why the strength columns below read as dashes.

DiameterTensile strength, minYield strength, minElongation, minHardness, max
≤ 1½ in (≤ M36)———24–38 HRC · 248–352 HBW
> 1½ in (> M36)———24–38 HRC · 248–352 HBW
